Mr. S. Testimonial

I was at the end of my rope.  For six years my wages had been garnished by the IRS.  They only took $26.44 per week, but with a wife and three small children to feed, every little bit helps.  Things got even worse when the IRS started confiscating my tax refunds.  In 2014 they grabbed over $3,500 and my wife hit her breaking point.  She said we can’t go on like this.  As a non-native English speaker, I didn’t know where to turn.

Fortunately, my accountant referred us to Mr. Ryder’s law firm and he immediately started working the case.  He dug into the facts and discovered that I had lost my house in foreclosure in 2008 and the bank had issued a 1099-C for cancellation of indebtedness income over $100,000.  It turned out the bank subsequently sold the house for a profit and issued an amended form showing cancellation of indebtedness = $0.  But meanwhile I had been assessed over $40,000 tax liability including penalties and interest.

Within a week Mr. Ryder had me file an amended Form 1040-X to fix the IRS mistake.  It turned out I had never really owed them a dime.  Unfortunately, the law only allowed me to get back approximately $10,000 of the $20,000 I had paid since refund of payments older than two years was barred.  It ended up taking the IRS over a year to unwind the situation, but Mr. Ryder stayed on top of it with periodic updates.  I admit I began to question whether they would really send me the cash since it took over a year, but they finally did.  Amazingly the IRS paid me several hundred dollars interest since they took so long to fix the problem.

My only regret is that I didn’t call Mr. Ryder’s law firm earlier.  He was always patient, kindly assuring me that although the IRS was slow, they would eventually refund some of my money, and sure enough they did.  Next time anyone has a tax problem, don’t wait to hit your breaking point.   I recommend they call Tom Ryder for a free initial consultation.
